Turn this week's spelling list into practice worksheets

Snap the list your child brought home, or paste it from the teacher's email. Every sheet uses only the words on the list, challenge words included, so the practice matches Friday's test.

Made from a pasted teacher's email: missing letters and unscramble sheets with the same twelve words.

How it works

  1. Snap or pasteTake a photo of the worksheet, homework or list, upload a PDF, or paste the teacher's email.
  2. Check what it readSee the subject, grade and skill it found. Answer one or two quick questions, pick how many sheets.
  3. PrintDownload a PDF on US Letter or A4, with your child's name on top and an answer key at the end.

Four ways to practice the same list

Missing letters
Each word with a letter or two missing. Blanks are chosen so only one word on the list fits.
Unscramble
The letters of each word in a jumble, with a line to write it correctly.
Trace and write
Each word in gray to trace, then a line to write it alone. Good for the first day with a new list.
Practice test
Numbered lines for you to read the words aloud, with the words listed in the answer key.

A week with one list

Monday: trace and write, to see every word once. Tuesday: missing letters. Wednesday: unscramble. Thursday: a practice test, then a second look at any word that was hard. Friday is the real test.

Ten minutes a day is plenty. Make five sheets at once and keep them in the homework folder.

What lists work

Printed weekly lists, lists written in a planner or homework folder, a page from the spelling book, or the words pasted from an email, Seesaw, ClassDojo or another class app. Logistics in the same message, like picture day or library books, are ignored.

Lists built on a pattern (long a with silent e, short o, -ck, blends) keep to the words on the list. If you would rather practice the pattern with new words, the phonics page does that.

Questions parents ask

Will it add words that are not on the list?

No. A spelling list is treated as fixed: the sheets use only the words you snapped or pasted, and repeat them in a new order across sheets rather than inventing new ones.

Does it include the challenge or bonus words?

Yes, if they are on the page or in the text. If you want to leave them out, say so in "Anything to add?" before reading the list.

Can I make a practice spelling test?

Yes. Choose the spelling test option. You get numbered lines for your child and the words in the answer key for you to read aloud.

How many sheets can I make?

From 1 to 20 at a time. "New set" makes another batch with the questions in a different order.

Is there an answer key?

Yes, on the last page, unless you switch it off. Trace-and-write sheets have nothing to mark, so they have no key.
